Hunting Rules

HOUND EXERCISING:

Huge thank you to Oliver and the kennel staff for hosting the hound exercising bike ride and instruction towards the hunt badge today.  They took out 28 children from little to large and brought them all back as well which was an added bonus. I think Oliver had the easier job managing the hounds with Frances and others mustering the troops. They descended on the refreshments at the end like ravaging hoards so obviously worked up an appetite.

PICNIC RIDE:

Yesterdays Picnic Ride was round beautiful Downton. Twenty members set off, Amanda took pictures of us interepid explorer, just in case we didn’t make it back! Frances did a sterling job at least trying to keep us all under control. We forded streams, fought our way through unchartered woods and galloped across pastures… slightly romanticised but great fun with no broken children at the end and lots of smiles. Unfortunately we didn’t swim in the crocodile infested lake as it was rather unseasonal August weather but we finished with a grand picnic and if we are fortunate enough to be invited back next year hopefully we can.

Massive thanks  to Mark and Philippa Wiggin for their hospitality letting us loose on their land! Especially Philippa who took the time to ride it with me…. even though I don’t think we followed the same route all the time due to various obstacles such as rather excitable cows!

Thanks also to Emma Hallett who took on the task of taking the lead rein contingent which as she pointed out there wasn’t much lead reining happening and quite a bit of galloping as well!

But biggest thanks must go to Frances for today and yesterday for her patience and stamina dealing with 20 children on ponies yesterday and 28 on bikes today. We might have found a new career for her Nanny Frances! J
